Children’s birthday parties today are themed extravaganzas
At It’s a Piece of Cake, a San Francisco -based party-planning company owned by Simla Akyol, the most requested theme is tea parties. Akyol and her assistants teach etiquette lesson and then sit the guests down to a fancy tea.
The children sup at a linen-covered table with real silverware and drink from English rose porcelain the sets. All the while they are dressed in lace gloves and boas, bedazzled with jewels and shading themselves with pretty pink parasols.
Other favorites include disco dance parties, runway fashion shows and outer space parties whwere kids make their own jet packs and “go to another planet and moon dance.”
“Just knowing what the birthday boy or girl likes is the real key to making the party special”, Akyol says.
